Or is it?

Mitt Romney, having withdrawn from the presidential race, has endorsed John McCain as the Republican candidate of choice. Wonder what would have happened had he given the nod to Huckabee?

This dovetails with a potential conservative strategy outlined by Pat Buchanan recently. It is a conspiracy theorist’s dream/nightmare. Buchanan suggested that:
1) Conservatives run McCain as candidate.
2) Romney gives an inspiring convention speech like Reagan’s ’76 convention speech.
3) McCain loses to Clinton/Obama. He is branded a loser by voters.
4) Conservatives “sacrifice” four years with a democrat in office. They feel that damage will be done.
5) In the 2012 election, Romney swoops in and saves the day!

Buchanan compared this to Carter’s one term in office that was followed by Reagan and Bush the first’s reign. Keep in mind that these were the most recent glory days for conservatives in America.

What do you think?
