Obama has my stapler! shirt

Obama has my stapler!

After a week of sick kids and broken home appliances I decided to crank out a t-shirt design that has been bouncing around in my head. If you like it pass it on to the other Office Space – Obama – political junkies that you know. Thanks!

He might just win my vote. More likely that Lucasfilm will get them for copyright infringement. Enjoy.

Lynne Cheney says that her husband is related to Obama

Quoting CNN:
‘In an interview on MSNBC Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Cheney said that in the course of researching her husband’s genealogy for her new book, “Blue Skies, No Fences,” she discovered that the two public figures share an ancestor eight generations ago.

“Think about this,” Mrs. Cheney said. “This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor, a man that came to Maryland, could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths as Dick’s and Barack Obama’s.”‘ Full article here.

From the Post: “At least that was the stunning announcement made yesterday by Lynne Cheney, who said that the very white vice president from Wyoming is in fact the eighth cousin of Obama, the Senate’s only African American member. She said she discovered the link, traced back to a French Huguenot who figured prominently in Maryland history, while researching her latest book.”  Full article here.

Expanded Gore-Nobel Peace Prize Coverage

So, Gore picks up the NPP for his work bringing attention to the issues surrounding global warming (more here).  This brings increased attention those who want Gore to run for president in 2008 (  Would he want to run?  It’s possible that he had his fill of presidential elections when he lost (won) the 2000 election to Bush.  Or maybe he feels that he can contribute more if he remains a private citizen.

If he doesn’t run then there is still the opportunity for him to endorse a candidate for president. This would be a significant boost to the lucky endorsee given Gore’s popularity.   Would he give Hilary the nod?  Seems logical given the connection.  But remember the tension that existed between Bill and Al when then President Clinton endorsed Howard Dean in the 2000 election (details here).  Does Gore still hold a grudge?  I don’t know.

Side note – don’t forget Tipper Gore’s campaign to  rate/censor music and her founding role in the Parents Music Resource Center.  This was the beginning of ratings for music, TV and video games.  Details about the effects of her 1985 testimony on this subject right here.  This doesn’t have direct bearing on Gore but worth remembering.

Let’s close and ponder what could have been if Gore had won in 2000.  Watch the video and dream.

Response to Bush’ plan for 20,000 more troops in Iraq

January 12, 2007 at 9:05 am | Posted in history, politics | Leave a comment

2006_condie.jpgSec of State Rice faced the music in a Senate hearing while Demcratic pres hopefuls weighed in and Republicans criticized the president’s plan.

Video here.

You have to wonder how all of this is being receivied by troops in Iraq.  Do they perceive public support for them even in the face of mounting discontent with the presidential planning (or lack thereof) for Iraq?  Said one Army Specialist in an MSNBC/Washington Post article, “They’re kicking a dead horse here. The Iraqi army can’t stand up on their own.”  And that’s what the planning hinges on – whether or not the new Iraqi government can rule, protect and govern its own population.

Meanwhile, in Marin, there was instant reaction to Bush’s announcement.  I saw a growing protest at the Hub as I drove through around 5 yesterday.  Here’s the IJ’s full report.
